GTA 6 Preload and File Size: What Is Confirmed

According to Rockstar's pre-order announcement, digital pre-orderers can pre-download from 12 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Preload is not earlier access: Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has stated publicly that no edition will unlock earlier. Release remains 19 November 2026.

The physical version has no disc at launch but a download code in the box. Whether a disc appears later is not confirmed; Take-Two has denied reports of a physical version after launch.

Neither the Xbox Store (which shows only a placeholder of about 329 MB) nor the PlayStation Store lists a figure. For orientation, comparable games: GTA V Enhanced takes about 87 GB on PS5, Red Dead Redemption 2 at least 105 GB. GamesRadar estimates 120 to 130 GB or more for GTA 6. That is an estimate, not a promise.

A PS5 has about 667 GB available, the Slim about 842 GB, the PS5 Pro about 1.89 TB. The Xbox Series X offers about 802 GB usable, the Series S with 512 GB about 364 GB. If you have a smaller console, make room in time or plan an expansion.

Figures such as 676.7 GB (a screenshot from an account labelled as parody) or 750 GB (a rumour from 2022) circulate online. Alleged ISO files from download portals are malware. Download nothing outside the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store.

A fan site read timestamps from the PlayStation Store country menu, and several media reported on it. According to these, the game unlocks in staggered windows, for example at 00:00 UTC on 19 November for the UK and at 05:00 UTC for the US and Canada. Rockstar has not announced these times, and they can change.

Check your console's free storage and plan a reserve above the estimated size. Make sure you pre-ordered digitally, because only then is preload available. Download only via the PlayStation Store or Xbox Store. And do not expect an earlier start: preload only prepares the installation, release remains 19 November 2026.

For planning the estimate is usable as long as you read it as a lower bound and allow a reserve. If your console has little free storage, do not wait for the exact figure but check now how much space is free. The unlock times come from extracted data and not from a Rockstar announcement. Do not rely on a specific time, but on the information in the store on release day.
